Home Tours Treks Short Inca Trail 2D/1N

This trip is for the travelers on a tight schedule. It allows a taste of the Inca Trail without days of hiking and camping. We begin the hike from the train stop at Kilometer 104 and follow the Inca Trail for six hours till we are at Inti Punku, the gate of the sun and have a spectacular view of Machu Picchu. From here we descend into the famous “Lost City”. After a restful night in a hotel, we return to Machu Picchu at dawn to see the ruins in perfect morning light. In the afternoon, we return to Cusco by train.

Day 1  Cusco – Machu Picchu

We can take the train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo, which follows the Urubamba river to Km.104 of the railroad. There we get off the train and start the hike at a footbridge to arrive at the Inca site of Chachabamba. After a brief visit to this lovely ruin with water channels and fountains, we start a four-hour climb that will take us past spectacular overlooks above the great valley. Then we visit the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young) just below a lovely waterfall. This place has a chain of ritual baths and elegantly curved terracing. We follow the Inca Trail across a steep mountainside and up narrow stairways through lush, humid cloud-forest. Suddenly we cross the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate) and encounter an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry of Machu Picchu, situated in between steep forested mountain peaks.

We walk the last half-hour or so down through the heart of Machu Picchu and we will take a bus to the small town of Aguas Calientes where we overnight in a local hotel.
(Walking distance approximately 13 Km)

Day 2  Machu Picchu - Cusco

We enjoy an early morning visit to the Machu Picchu ruins, spending the day in both guided and individual exploration. After we visit the most fascinating features of this Inca settlement, some would like to take the optional hike to an amazing overview of the site, while others may prefer to investigate Machu Picchu’s multitude of hidden nooks and corners.

After this complete discovery, we return to Aguas Calientes and board the return train to Cusco.
