The Inca Trail is Peru's best known hike, it combines a good mix of Inca ruins, mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest and rich subtropical jungle. More than 250 species of orchids have been counted in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. There are also numerous birds such as hummingbirds, waterfowl and the majestic Andean Condor to spot in the beautiful scenery of Machu Picchu.
The Inca Trail is in total 45 kilometers and starts at Qoriwayrachina and ends in Machu Picchu. The trek is rated as moderate and therefor any reasonably fit person should be able to cover the route. Nevertheless the trek is fairly challenging and altitudes of 4200m are reached, so make sure that you are well acclimatized.
